How to make a powerful
presentation - using the POPTA principle

Good presentations win and keep business.
However, the fact remains that many presentations actually create the opposite to that intended

This fast paced, highly informative seminar looks at the pitfalls of such a presentation and shows you in 3 easy steps how to structure and present a presentation that will have them saying ‘more’

Consider different methods for establishing confidence and reassurance as a presenter

• Distinguish between; lecturing, tutoring, teaching and demonstrating

• Know the key ingredients of a successful presentation

• Decide how to select the most appropriate visual aid

• Know how to formulate a fail safe method for making a presentation at ‘the drop of a hat'

It’s been said many times, that the fear of public speaking ranks higher than death or divorce.  Managing Director’s are constantly telling us  'I run a successful company, surely I should be able to give a twenty minute speech without feeling my world is coming to an end'.

So why is it, that putting yourself in front of a group of people (or even just one in the case of interview presentations) brings people out in a cold sweat, unable to string a coherent sentence together or worse, simply drying up in mid-sentence?

In some cases, it’s the fact that we underestimate the needs of the audience. It can also be that we are unrealistic about our own presentation skills. We (mistakenly) think that, as we are an expert in the subject, we can deliver a presentation ‘on the hoof’ just by responding to questions ‘from the floor’ or worse still, reading the PowerPoint bullet points out loud.

For those Executives who need to make a presentation, either to a group or individual, ground rules apply and that is what this full day course is all about. We start by getting down to basics and create a fully structured presentation rather than simply showing you how to perform.

The first step for anyone making a presentation is to understand the difference between lecturing, tutoring, teaching and demonstrating. This means, the purpose of the presentation dictates the style of presentation. Is it a sales presentation to a new customer or buyer, encouraging a workforce to adopt change or is it imparting information to an invited audience?

During the day, you will discover:

·
The 3 things you MUST know before making a presentation – essential pieces of information that increase the power of your presentation
·         The KEY CHANGE you need to make to your PowerPoint slides that DOUBLES the impact
·         The ONE thing you should do to make your presentation more memorable

'I think everyone who makes a presentation should come on this course. It is bound to prove valuable to me and as a result of attending this workshop I will definitely be changing my presentations - for the better. The next one I am planning is sure to be fantastic. A tremendous amount of material covered in one day - great stuff. 10 / 10'
Debbie Denton. NHS S.Yorks / E.Midlands Dental Deanery

'An excellent introduction especially for the more nervous presenter. Hugely enjoyable day'
Mel McCart. NHS Dentist.

You will enjoy and benefit from this workshop if you want to:

·         Learn about the rule of 3. The oldest rule in the book (Aristotle wrote about it in his book Rhetoric) we look at how the rule of 3 is used to ensure a powerful presentation. From establishing key objectives to choosing memorable words.

Veni, Vidi, Vici (I came, I saw, I conquered) - Julius Caesar
Friends, Romans, Countrymen lend me your ears - William Shakespeare
"Our priorities are Education, Education, Education" - Tony Blair
A Mars a day helps you work, rest and play - Advertising slogan
Stop, look and listen - Public safety announcement

• Understand the value of preparation and why it takes one hour of preparation time for each minute of presentation time.
• Know when to use humour – and when not
• Appreciate the use of ice breakers and introductions.  We share some best examples.
• Know how to create an inner calm (the duck or iceberg syndrome)
